Tips on Positional Play
Positions in a poker game do matter. Especially, if you are playing a no-limit game, you must exploit positions to get the best outcome. The impact is not only on the hand a player gets, but also on how the game is played.
It is extremely tricky to play aggressively in “out of position”. It is also not easy to win cash when you’ve done a flop in a heads-up game. Consider a situation where you have to do a flop. Now, when you check call a flop, it shows that you are basically weak while if you check raise a flop, it shows you are quite a formidable contender for your opponents.
If you opponents bet in an “out of position” situation, you can check raise the turn. This would however, not yield more cash if you win the game. In other words, there is not much chance for you to succeed in “out of position” game. As a result, the possibility would be to bet out and check raise the turn.
Now, what happens when you flop while in position? In all probability, you win with handsome money. From late positions, it is easier and comfortable to play with medium cards. If you are intuitive enough, you would also be able to judge whether it is heads-up play or a multi-way game.
Yet another way you can win a game profitably is by raising pre-flop situation. Or, you can also rake money by flopping a set in position. If your opponent is an aggressive player, raise a flop immediately to win an optimum sum.
You can make wonders during flop if you manage your positional play well, reduce vital information to seep out, and play your cards selectively. So, next time you get bad cards, concentrate on your position rather than sulk.
